HOMEBODY by Rupi Kaur- Kaur and her poems are known to all just like Rumi and his poems were!
The way some of her mere words shake the soul of the reader is commendable! And ofcourse, poems are meant to shake souls.
Rupi’s poems have the power to completely rip or to completely heal the reader. (No wonder she’s writer of the decade!)
The Life of Rupi Kaur
Rupi is an India born Canadian poetess, artist, illustrator and performer.
(Watch her at TedX below):
Rupi was born October 3, 1992 in Punjab, India. She migrated with her family to Canada when she was just 3 years old.
Growing up, Rupi didn’t have so much of friends and didn’t had so much of confidence in her either.
So, to express herself she started drawing and illustrating. It became relief to her but destiny surely had other plans.
Kaur and her Love Affair
Rupi Kaur didn’t start writing yet but as she did, as she says- “she had a love affair with writing.” And it surely shows in her beautiful writings.
Kaur raised to fame with her short visual poetry on Instagram and Tumblr.
She was inspired by her amazing readers to publish a book and hence her first collection of poetry came out as “Milk and Honey” in 2014.
She self-published her first collection of poetry’ ‘Milk and Honey’ in 2014 despite having issues and not having much of support.
“I started submitting individual poems to anthologies, magazines, and journals. The result was one rejection after another. As I was in the middle of picking and choosing which pieces to submit, I came upon a realization. I felt I was doing a disservice to my larger body of work by plucking pieces out of the collection, throwing them out there in the world, hoping they would land. I realized that my work read differently, when read in its entirety, and separating them didn’t make any sense. That’s when I set my eyes on self-publishing, regardless of what the creative writing professor had said.”Rupi Kaur (on self publishing)
Her poetry collection milk and honey was on NEW YORK TIMES BEST SELLER FOR 77 WEEKS STRAIGHT!

3 years later, in 2017 came one more wonder into existence. “The Sun And Her Flowers” Kaur’s second collection of poetry.
At the time, when milk and honey was published, Rupi was just a 21 year old University student who also, had the courage to self publish her work.
And no wonder her hardwork paid off. There’s no doubt how she went from rags to riches and gained hell lots of love and confidence!
Her poetry is so soothing!
Kaur’s work deals and pushes the reader to think about love, loss, trauma, healing, femininity and migration.
Rupi, from a simple 21 year old college girl has now, become an inspiration to many.
